Losinj is located in the northern region of the Croatian Adriatic Sea near Kvarner bay. It is the largest island within the local archipelago and the eleventh in size on the Croatian side of the Adriatic Sea. Measuring 33 km in lenght, its width ranges from 5 km to no more than 5 m in the mere center of the island near the small town of Mali Losinj. Should you visit the island, you will have the opportunity to visit churches dating back to the year 1450, such as the church of Saint Martin in Mali Losinj. Amongst other things, don't forget to throw a glance at the little church of the Virgin Mary in Cikat. It lies in the very location where the sailing vessels of Mali Losinj used to depart or were welcomed back. There are a number of churches and abbeys, decorated with invaluable pictures, frescos, mosaics and reliefs that will lead you through the indescribably eventful history of the island of Losinj, as will the mansions from the Habsburg monarchy era, monuments and art collections, castles and fortresses, archeological excavation sites and museums. With its year-round pleasant and mild climate, this climatic spa's recreational and curative effect, especially on asthma patients, was already discovered in the 19th century.
